Staff Dentist
Job title: Staff dentist.

Job summary:
The staff dentist works as part of the dental team to provide dental care in a community health center setting. The staff dentist recognizes the challenges and limitations of providing excellent dental care to an uninsured population, and promotes a holistic approach to care as consistent with the mission of Catherine’s Health Center.
Primary location:
Position supervisor: Lead dentist.
Description of duties/responsibilities:
• Examines individuals requesting care, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out appropriate dental/oral treatments, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
• Records patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patients and the care or treatment provided.
• Educates individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention.
• Assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education to the community as requested.
• When necessary, collaborate with medical and behavioral health team members to facilitate the delivery of patient-centered holistic care.
Minimum position qualifications:
• Graduation from an accredited dental program; completion of an accredited general practice residency program is preferred; and Minimum of five years clinical experience preferred.
• Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the state of Michigan, Michigan DEA certification, eligible for enrollment in Medicare and Medicaid programs.
Skills, knowledge, and experience requirements:
• Excellent clinical skills, communication skills, and a strong commitment to providing excellent care that is team oriented.
• Excellent bedside manner and time management skills.
• Experience with a fully-integrated team approach is desired.
• Commitment to proving quality, compassionate care to a diverse and needy patient population.
• Previous experience with an electronic medical records system.

In the performance of the job duties, the employee will work primarily in an office environment. The noise level in this environment is usually moderate.

Employee immunization:
The staff dentist position (Category I) is at risk for blood/body fluid exposure. Catherine’s recommends all immunizations. Hepatitis B immunization is required. TB testing and annual screening are also required.
